Would you be willing to put limits on usurious rates being charged by credit card companies in order to stimulate consumer spending?

When I was in the House, I was on the financial services committee. And the answer to your question is yes, and we’re working on that legislation. Right now because of the collapse of the middle class and the increase of poverty, you’re finding large numbers of American families who when they go to the grocery story, are buying groceries on a credit card. And despite the fact they are paying their bills every single month, the credit card companies are charging them 25, 28 percent interest rate. That is absolutely outrageous and a rip-off that cannot be tolerated.

Lack of funding hinders the ability of the National Park Service to protect land and educate visitors. How will you use the upcoming centennial of the park system to mobilize Congress and the public to provide adequate funding?

I agree with Senator Casey. I would just add to that that if you look at the war in Iraq we are spending approximately 12 billion dollars every single month. Now I don't have the budget for the National Park system in front of me, but let me tell you it is a tinny fraction of what we spend in Iraq every single month. And those are the kinds of priorities we need to debate and I think that we need to change.

Should the government give tax incentives to bike commuters?

As we deal with global warming and we deal with pollution, the idea of giving people options other than the automobile is very very good. I know in Vermont we are building a whole lot of bike paths. I strongly support bike transportation.
