Sen. Dodd tells different stories at news conferences

While attempting to walk on water, Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) ended up making a splash. Earlier in the day, on a conference call with reporters, Dodd denied knowing he was part of a special loan program within Country Wide Financial.

Then in a press conference, as he was trying to distance himself from the scandal, Dodd mysteriously admitted receiving notification – back in 2003 – that he was being placed in a “special” loan category. Click here to listen to his statement.

Dodd said: “In fact we knew at the time I think going into that – got a call and were told apparently – that we were being dealt with by that group within Country Wide.”

All of us reporters kinda scratched our heads: “What did he just say?”

Dodd still denies knowingly receiving special interest rates. He says he figured having two loans with Country Wide qualified him as a “VIP.”

Republicans were calling for an investigation before Dodd’s admission, and a comment like that is not going to help his case.

Ah, if only loans added up like frequent flyer miles, maybe he’d get a towel at the end of the long flight he just embarked on.
