<title>First I was secretary of the navy during the period of time that this country laid the foundation, 1973, 74, to eliminate the draft. And I know the reasons why we eliminated the draft. We took the chance as a nation that we could raise sufficient troops on the all volunteer concept and that has worked and worked far better than any of us ever thought. And today wherever we are in the world defending freedom it is people in uniform who are there because they raised their hand and they volunteered. I can not in my judgment see anyone in the foreseeable future coming to the presidency who would want to reinstitute the draft. Period.</title>

<title>It’s important that we once again restore America’s ability to build nuclear power plants. We’ve lost that now. We have stopped the production of these plants, so to speak, for almost two decades. So it’s time to recognize that it’s a safe form of energy. It produces nearly zero CO2 compared to a coal-fired plant. Zero. Right now, we rely on nuclear power for about 20 percent of our energy. I’d like to see in the next decade or 15 years, perhaps that 20 percent can go as high as 30 or 35 percent.</title>

<title>We desperately need to get funding to the military such that they don’t lose a step. Because they are succeeding in the goals laid down militarily, not politically, but that’s not their responsibility. – excuse me let me finish. So we don’t want them to lose a step, but clearly the future course of this operation in Iraq we have to revisit where the political structure is or is not.</title>
