About 'Ask Your Lawmaker'
You Ask
If you could ask Senator Hillary Clinton any question, what would it be? What would you ask Senator Craig? Obama? McCain? Speaker Pelosi? If you had a microphone and a media pass at the U.S. Capitol, what would you ask your lawmaker? Now is your chance to ask the questions that can help shape policy – and help hold your elected representatives to account: Where do they stand on the important issues? What do they do all day? Capitol News Connection is connecting you to the corridors and committee rooms of Congress where decisions get made: We want to make sure you can question lawmakers on the issues that matter most to you, your family, your community.
You Vote
It’s hard for a lawmaker to dodge a question asked by, say, 13,462 people in 29 states! That’s why we want you to vote for the questions you most want answered. The questions with the most votes are sure to be answered – because they will likely be the best. Our team of 10 journalists will ask as many of your questions as possible, but we want to make sure we are asking the best questions. So we need your help! We think 10,000 people asking one question has more impact than asking 10,000 questions…so we’re going to make it easy for you to see if someone else has already asked your question or something similar. We want to give citizens a powerful voice!
We Get Answers
Capitol News Connection’s award-winning journalists on Capitol Hill will track down politicians to make sure the most popular – and the best – questions get answered. Microphone in hand, CNC will ask at least 10 questions a day – and upload the MP3 broadcast quality audio answers to the Ask Your Lawmaker website and widget. And we’ll ask follow up questions…to make sure lawmakers are answering your questions. You can listen to the audio, comment and share. Use it on your Facebook or MySpace page…embed the audio in your blog … or just digg it! And then ask a follow up question!
Who are the reporters asking ‘my’ question?
Capitol News Connection reporters troll the corridors and committee rooms of Capitol Hill every day interviewing lawmakers for stories they produce for our public radio stations. Now, they’ll also be looking out for you – taking to lawmakers the questions you want answered.
